After work today I drove down the causeway and went to look at the lake. The wind was still whipping (40 mph gusts) and the lake showed. Shanties of the brave lined the horizon not too long ago, but now the wind has piled the ice in a neat row that stretches across the skyline.
Past the push ice is open water. The specks of glitter in the air in this photo are gulls, riding the wind in search of food. I also counted three Bald Eagles out in the chaos.
Standing on shore, I could hear the ice moving. With the gusts of wind came a big cracking sound. She’s moving; pushing and pulling to become new.
